At the foundation is Ludwig’s proprietary 7-ply shell consisting of a 4-ply maple exterior with a 3-ply cherry interior. The cherry ply adds a warmth and playability to the familiar attack of maple while also adding extra “breath” to the drum’s overall tone. Handcrafted at Ludwig’s factory in Monroe, NC, USA, this shell is their thinnest, measuring a mere 5.5 mm thick for superior resonance and sustain. These are their lightest shells and great for the gigging drummer.
